As President of the Sunrise Rotary Club of Arcata, I am very pleased to welcome you to the 40th annual Jerry Paul-Arcata Invitational Basketball Tournament. This tournament has become a tradition for the north coast and the Arcata community. Jerry Paul coached both boys and girls basketball at Arcata High School for more than two decades and also served as the school's athletic director for fifteen years. Coach Paul was the founder of the tournament and an inspiration to the athletes he coached and the colleagues that worked with him.
This is the 13th year that the Sunrise Rotary Club of Arcata has sponsored this tournament. Our club has enjoyed its relationship with the high school and look forward to many more years of supporting this outstanding tradition. For many of us, the basketball season does not "officially" begin until the tip-off of the very first game of the tournament.
The Sunrise Rotary Club of Arcata is a service organization dedicated to improving our community and the world around us.
We would like to welcome those teams, parents and fans that have traveled from out of town for the tournament. I hope that you will take the time to explore the beauty and hospitality of our area.
The competition during the tournament will be fierce, with plenty of excitement for everyone. I wish the best of luck to each of the teams.
